Whether it’s a quiet weekday dinner or a lively weekend gathering, Julius rises to the occasion.
If the term wood veneer brings to mind flimsy, flat-pack furniture—it's time for a refresh. Wood veneers are an exceptional material for modern furniture, offering a sleek appearance and a wide variety of finishes and tones.
Wood veneer is crafted from a thin slice of natural hardwood bonded to a stable composite base. This process makes it more affordable than solid timber, while the base material adds strength and stability. Solid wood is more susceptible to warping due to moisture, whereas veneers help ensure your furniture looks beautiful and lasts longer.
Bonus: Veneer is also more environmentally friendly. Because it slices one piece of wood into multiple layers, a single tree can create far more product—meaning fewer trees are harvested overall. A win for design and the planet.
A Note on the Julius Extension Dining Table
You might notice that the wood grain on the extension leaf of our Julius dining table runs in the opposite direction from the rest of the tabletop. This is intentional. When the table is closed, the grain is matched to appear seamless. When extended, the opposite grain on the leaf creates a unique, eye-catching design element—a thoughtful touch in the table’s overall aesthetic.
How to Clean and Care for Wood Veneer
For everyday cleaning, use a damp, soft, lint-free cloth and always wipe in the direction of the grain. For tougher spots caused by food or drink, add a small amount of mild dish soap to your cloth and continue wiping along the grain.
Avoid: Furniture polishes with wax or silicone. Wax can build up over time, creating a cloudy finish. Silicone leaves behind a white residue that can damage the surface. Always check your cleaning products to ensure they are safe for wood veneer.
Never use abrasive cleaners or rough cloths—stick with gentle products and soft materials to preserve the finish.
Things to Avoid
- Direct sunlight – can cause fading and drying.
- Excess heat – always use placemats and coasters.
- Moisture – wipe up spills immediately to avoid damage.
Note: If you notice bubbling on the surface, it’s most likely due to improper care—usually from prolonged exposure to moisture or heat. Regular maintenance helps keep your veneer furniture looking its best for years to come.
